Which other websites and pages do your peers find interesting?

This site alone leads to over 500 websites and thousands of webpages, all related to vintage photography and cinematography.

Before getting lost in all this information here's a method to see the websites and pages your peers found interesting, and getting them organized at the same time. It's called Social Bookmarking. It's free, it's fun and is the next generation way of using internet. The power of this method is that you'll find webpages other people have found about the exact topics that interest YOU.

Turn on your sound and click the triangle

How do you get this working for you ?

  1. Register to one of the social bookmarking services, for example del.icio.us. Now you have two extra buttons in your browser: a 'tagging' button and a 'del.icio.us button.
  2. Browse the web to find web pages that interest you.
  3. When you've found such a page, click the 'tagging' button. What happens next is that del.icio.us remembers that page on their system. So far nothing new. You could have done that on your PC by bookmarking the page. But it goes further.
  4. del.icio.us now shows a screen where you can enter keywords, for example Leica, rangefinder, lens, etc. These keywords are called tags. You use these tags to find your tagged pages again later on.
  5. Suppose a week later you've found 200 interesting web pages and 'tagged' them. Out of these 200 pages you gave 6 of them the tag 'rangefinder'. Say today you want to quickly find only the pages you've tagged with 'rangefinder'. All you have to do is press the 'del.icio.us' button in your browser and presto, you get the 6 pages with the tag 'rangefinder'.

It gets even more powerful

Because now 'social bookmarking' enters the scene. Like you, thousands of others are using del.icio.us and have tagged interesting web pages with for instance 'rangefinder'. The beauty of the system is that you can now search on del.icio.us for the tag 'rangefinder' and you'll get all the pages others have already found before you. Which means you'll find pages about rangefinders you might never have found. How cool is that? The other way around, other people can also find the pages you tagged with 'rangefinder' and so a 'social group' arises around all webpages with the tag 'rangefinder'. That's why it's called 'social bookmarking'.

Try it. You'll like it. Go to del.icio.us or any other social bookmarking service and register.
